Gather and Write
Gather and Write is an award-winning weekly online hour of creative writing. Our tutor is Cambridge University’s Booker Prize-nominated novelist, Joanne Rush.
Maybe you’re curious to try writing for the first time, or partway through a project and in search of inspiration. Wherever you are in your journey, these Friday morning sessions (7.30am-8.30am UK time) create a revitalising pause – a space to reflect, imagine and write.
Each week offers a new theme, with curated prompts drawn from art and nature as well as literature.
If you choose to share your writing, you’ll find support and encouragement. But you are also very welcome to sit quietly and absorb.
We know that a creative life is a choice that can make money tight, and we truly don’t want that to be a barrier to anyone joining us. Our “creative prices” are for anyone who would otherwise find it genuinely difficult to attend regularly.

Are these sessions suitable for beginners?
Absolutely. Whether you’re brand new to writing or a seasoned writer looking for inspiration, you’re very welcome.
Do I have to share what I write?
Not at all. You’re welcome to simply write quietly with us. If you do choose to share, Joanne’s feedback is one of the things we receive most compliments about. You’ll receive support and encouragement.
What if I miss a session?
At the moment, sessions aren’t recorded (to protect the quiet, communal feeling of the space). We’re looking to add an extra session in the next few months.
Do I need anything special?
Just the link we’ll send by email when you book a session, something to write with, and an hour for yourself. (We use Microsoft Teams - no need to download anything, just click the link.)
